HODGMAN MUST DELIVER ON TRADE MISSION - MEDIA RELEASE

Labor Senator Lisa Singh has welcomed Premier Will Hodgman's trade mission to India, and says she hopes the Premier can negotiate some concrete outcomes for Tasmanian exporters.

"I hope Will Hodgman can use this mission to deliver exciting new trade prospects for Tasmania."

"There are countless opportunities available in India, especially in areas where Tasmania already excels, such as renewable energy, agricultural development, and education."

"Australia and India already share a special connection through our shared values, and Australia's growing population of people with Indian heritage. I really want to see the Premier build upon this existing strong relationship, and deliver new business opportunities for Tasmanian companies."

Senator Singh is a passionate supporter of the Australia-India relationship. She is the first federal Australian parliamentarian of Indian heritage, and is continuing to develop and strengthen ties between both countries through her role as an Australian Senator.

In 2014 Senator Singh was recognised with a Pravasi Bharatiya Samman award from the President of India for her work in fostering friendly relations between India and Australia. This award is one of India's highest civilian honours - it translates literally as Overseas Indian Award.
